The Two Nation Theory... don't forget it!

When you are not petty and selfish you achieve big...
The Quaed e Azam was a great man and never petty and selfish, if he were so, he could never have accomplished the big thing which he did. One should read "Legend or Reality" published by Army Press Rawalpindi. If you don't get it, go to the Islamabad library, on the foots of the beautiful Margala Hills not far from the President's house and read the book sitting there.

Subsequently we got petty and selfish and see what happened. While one great man with his higher values got a country for the Muslims of the sub-continent the minions later on could not even get a yard of occupied Kashmir despite having a UN Resolution in favor. Nay they with their shortsightedness, selfishness and pettiness lost half of the country with the feudal and tribal mindset playing huge role in the debacle.

When the greater vision and the big picture and the real cause is forgotten and lost and our ideas degenerate into petty regionalism, parochialism and nepotism etc. we get results as we are getting now. It is getting worse by the day. Hate is ruling us rather love and concern for the Muslim Ummah.

Whether you like the bitter truth of history or not Pakistan was made only and only on the basis of a Two Nation theory. Nothing else. Not for any Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi or a Pathan. Although it was never envisioned as a theocratic state. Muslim State yes. For Muslims yes but it had full guarantees for all minorities. Quaed e Azam envisioned a modern state, he was himself very modern.

The criteria was one and only one. Muslim or Hindu - exactly as Israel, Muslim or a Jew - not an Arab or a Jew. This is a bitter truth of history. Only two nations till recently were made on the basis of a two nation theory one Pakistan and the other Israel. A few years ago it was Aceh and this year South Sudan. You have to swallow this bitter or sweet pill depends on what you believe in - truth or fiction.

If you want to re-construct history it is entirely up to you. Then there is no difference between you and the RSS Hindus who want to reconstruct history of India. Libraries worldwide are being filled with this fictitious history. You want to copy them, go ahead. At least they do not leave their co-religionists in the lurch like we want our to be.

Theories that give birth to a country are never time bound either. Even a Muslim child born today in India and thinks Pakistan is his country, you cannot stop him as per the original vision. Great sacrifices have been made in life, blood and money. All Muslim centers have been destroyed in India like Lucknow, Bhopal or Hyderabad, to name a few at the alter of Pakistan.

If the religious people at that time objected it was not that they did not want a Muslim Country. It is just that they were concerned that Muslim is in every nook and corner of India, what about him? How will you save him? All did not have the resources to move. Even Quaed e Azam always worried about it. When he was in Ziarath nothing else was on his mind. He cried all the time while Fatima Jinnah gave him napkins for his tears. Read it please.

Even the 1940 Allahabad declaration addressed by Allama Iqba called for Muslim majority states. At that time also they did not ask for a Muslim Country. Ask Najam sethi, he will testify to it. Or if you want I will send you the link listen to him yourself.

Now we can't get petty and selfish and all for our self. Some people's allusion to the thought that the writer (this article was written in response to an article and comments) may not be a Pakistani is a moot point. How does it matter even if he is not a Pakistani, a fact we do not know. Sitting in Dublin he must at best be a Muslim and an Irish. He seems to be a Muslim by his name, it is fine. Even that is not important. The important thing is what is he saying. Right or wrong? Truth or fiction? Whoever he may be.

What are you trying to suggest? Let's not stoop low. See what he is writing? There are a lot of historians including Stanely Wolvepert who are not Pakistani so will you say they are all anti-Pakistan? No. That is far too narrow minded a view.

We have to rise above all this pettiness and selfishness as we have been since the death of another great - Liaquath Ali Khan. In any case there have been only two heroes - The Quaed e Azam and Shaheed e Millath. Barring Suharwardy most others are considered as heroes but villains.

Stanley Wolpert in 1983 in fact resurrected and re-built the image of The Quad e Azam after it had taken a battering in the film Gandhi by Richard Attenborough. It was a non-Muslim that came to his rescue. No Muslim or a Pakistani did. "Jinnah of Pakistan" by Stanley Wolpert then restored his image.

The history is full of facts that show the struggle for Muslims of India and no other regional or tribal or racist consideration. Period. Quaed e Azam has repeatedly mentioned a homeland for Muslims of the sub-continent - one of the two nations, now if we we want to twist it for selfish reasons do it.

The history and objective of Pakistan will not change. But it will have its consequences. The only way of retaining Balochistan and reinforcing the claim on Kashmir is with the same Two Nation Theory. Nothing else. Like it or not.

UK and Allies strike Libya... UK at its mischief again!

If The West is sincere and serious then they should solve decades old problems...
It is most unfortunate - UK again leading in the killing of people in the Arab World. UK never stops. It created Israel right in the heart of Arab Land and we see no solution in sight with Israel's atrocity and continuously defying the world community.
It is Britain that has remained the culprit throughout. It is not international community but UK in disguise. It was Mrs. Thatcher who forced Reagan to act in the first Gulf War. It was Tony Blair who trapped Mr. George Bush. No same thing under one alibi or the other they kill Arabs and Muslims. How many have they killed in Iraq? Where they are suffering they just keep talking and do nothing viz. Israel and India in Kashmir. There they see no oppression and democracy is forgotten.
Remember the Muslim World and The Arab World does not see it with kindness. If the West was sincere it would have done something to restrain Israel in Palestine and restrained India in Kashmir and the rest of the country not to be so ruthless and murderous there. People are dying and democracy goes to the dogs. Cant the West see this? Will of the International Community is just a hogwash for their hidden ambitions.
It is their interests. They are not interested in the people but are driven by the desire to weaken the Arab World so that tomorrow it is no threat to Israel.

Why the demonstrations on Kashmir do not become news in international media?

If we continue like this we may be celebrating Kashmir day for ever...
Today is February 5 again it is a Kashmir day in Pakistan. We have been having it for over six decades now. There have been good enough demos in Azad Kashmir. I thought this will be reported in BBC, CNN, ABC or Skynews just to give a few examples.
They did cover the Egyptian demonstrations and even covered a demo on Belgrade. But failed to cover a dispute simmering between the two nuclear armed neighbors. Why is it so? I want reasons other than conspiracy theories and victim psychosis please.
As I see it, the Kashmiris and Pakistan do not make a professional effort in this direction. Their PR is at the lowest ebb. They should ensure through Media, Pressure Groups, Public Relations, Diplomacy and High Profile Statements by Heads of States that News Agencies pick Kashmir events, report and discuss it.
Our reputation is so bad and commitment so low that besides Pakistan internally it is no news even when people die of atrocities by occupying forces. It is barely reported in Pakistan media too. Why? Because no body cares. Dawn did not even report it on 5th Feb. http://www.dawn.com/latest-news . The News reported barely: http://www.thenews.com.pk/NewsDetail.aspx?ID=10676
At every forum 24x7 round the year we must talk of a Democratic Solution so Tony Blair used to say. But do the rulers make any statements or have a diplomatic and media thrust to do that. No. Diplomats abroad just enjoy their salaries and perks without doing their jobs. Why? They just do not care. If people are dying let them. Who cares?
Hey guys get your act together if at all you want Kashmir issue resolved. Make news and ensure it is reported world-wide on a daily basis. Without creating world awareness and pressure on a sustained basis the world is not going to move.

India, Pakistan and Kashmir... Why talks fail?

If Nehru was not a Kashmiri Pandith...
Would the problem have arisen? Probably not!
All the blood that has flown in the valley and every where due to this problem whether the Kashmiris have killed any one or the Indian Army killed so many, the blood is on the hands of Nehru who conquered Kashmir very much against the will of the people. The consequences of this expedition are now for all to see with death and mayhem all over. One wonders if it benefited India at all. It sure hurt the Kashmiris and the Indian forces a lot may be not the politicians.
It was just that Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India could not envisage Kashmir not being part of India because of his Kashmiri origins and sent in the army to capture it. It was purely an emotional decision, as so many of his other decisions have been like outburst and reneging on The Cabinet Mission Plan etc. Taking over Kashmir had nothing to do with Indian national interest what so ever. In an emotional state he never cared for India nor the people's sufferings. The result was while India gained independence a whole nation of Kashmir found itself occupied with split families.
Imagine the cost of suffering of so many millions of people on both sides of the control line and the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Even if Indian soldiers have died they died in vain just to satisfy the whims, fancy and emotions of one man called Nehru. Then he had this party called The Indian National Congress that have ruled for the most time in India after 1947. This party revers Nehru to the extent of worshiping him. So they cannot go against what Nehru did for them good or bad. And now it seems, so long this party is in power nothing concrete will ever come out of any talks with India particularly with respect to Kashmir. Congress will never give it up. It cannot differentiate between Indian interests and personal or party interests.
The best time was to make a deal in BJP's time. BJP according to them is not a party to partition nor a party to Kashmir dispute. It possibly could have come up with a solution when it was in power. At Agra we came close until Mr. Advani overturned the apple cart for his personal gains. However in the past few years just before the toppling of Musharraf that "atoot ang" (Kashmir an inalienable part of India) claim has gone and India has agreed to accept Kashmir as a dispute and a core one for that matter. According to Mani Shankar Aiyar the deal was almost done on Kashmir when Musharraf's luck ran out, with it the aspirations of Kashmiri's evaporated too.
The Bombay incident is just an excuse to delay and disrupt a solution and normalisation process. Congress will keep talking for eternity. It has nothing to loose. Whenever they are under any kind of pressure either from freedom fighters or USA they talk and diffuse. They are staying put with a massive army in Kashmir, killing people at will.
There is no pressure on India as all world pressure is on Pakistan to contain terrorism. How sad. There is not even a mention of Indian State Terrorism in Kashmir and elsewhere neither in the media nor diplomatic circles.
If Pakistan wants a solution to the dispute it either has to get a round table conference with all parties to resolve the issue non-violently or bring to bear enough media pressure and hence diplomatic pressure on India from all sides. Kashmir and the atrocities there must become central headline news in world media 24x7 for at least an year before you can see action. Both are nuclear powers so a military solution is ruled out. If you cannot bring this media and diplomatic pressure to bear on India then just forget any solution.
Wish India realises that it should not leave this problem for the future generations to tackle. It was Nehru's responsibility to solve this problem before he died because it was he who had created this unnecessary problem. But he did not despite all his promises and is making future generations in India, Kashmir and Pakistan to pay and suffer for it. Hope at least the present leadership realises it is time to solve the problem and not leave it to the future generations.
The easiest thing as Tony Blair once told Pranab Roy on an air plane is to look for a democratic solution. A democratic solution is nothing but a plebiscite. Why is the "biggest democracy" not paying heed?

Give the devil his due...

The vexed 60 year Kashmir Issue was almost resolved with backdoor diplomacy - Washingtonpost.
Don't get me wrong. I am no admirer of any dictator or any landlords purportedly to be leaders of the people of Pakistan but let's give the devil his due which our sense of fairplay demands. Was it this desire to etch his name in history and do something for Pakistan that he somehow wanted to complete his tenure and accomplish something before he left? Probably yes.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/21/AR2009022101714.html
It now transpires that he was close to a deal with India on Kashmir. I have posted the link above that will tell you all about it. Now this was no small achievement. It is terribly sad that a single mistake of Shaukat Aziz let this fellow down. This is a classic example of what happens when you are surrounded by not true leaders but cronies.

While he did a lot of good he was the victim of his own policies in so many areas, there is no denying that but one thing that hurt him most was the media that could not digest the newfound freedom granted by him. They started biting the master that freed him. So much of scorn was aimed at him so thoughtlessly that the thinkers in Pakistan were forced to think if it was not harming the national interests. Now it seems their fears were not unfounded.

The report says that there was going to be almost no border in Kashmir and Indian troops were going to be withdrawn. That was a huge success for the people of Kashmir. But then Musharraf's popularity spiralled down so much that India found it easy to wriggle out of it. One wonders how and when could we get to that point again.

It is fashionable to blame Musharraf for every thing but let's not ignore the good the guy did.
His intense backdoor diplomacy that we now know may have been the factor he wanted to cling to power as long as he could and get some results. Apart from picking on him for overthrowing an elected government you can't much attack him. He was engaging India positively, dealing with the a Neocon President in Washington - wonder if any other president could have done any different and the country was cruising ok.

While there was growing insurgency in NWFP due to the Taliban and AlQaeda factor, the country was doing well economically. I bet there was more prosperity somehow. Foreign exchange reserves were swelling, dollar was holding around Pk.Rs 60, energy was not so expensive, law and order not as bad as now, Pakistan was attracting investment too. Then comes this issue of Judical Reference against Iftiqar M. Choudhry and all hell breaks loose.

What people do not talk about which I want to do now is the way he brought back the politicians into the country. If he wanted he could have carried on somehow with Muslim League Q etc. But he brought back Benazir and in the end even brought home Nawaz Sharif. They owe their political existence to him. You may argue adinfinitum on the merits or demerits of NRO but the fact remains he ensured free and fair elections and handed over the power to the politicians.

Pakistan succumbs to US threats of aid withdrawal...

Pakistan missed an opportunity to highlight Kashmir issue and simply played into Indian hands!
India makes mistakes and yet remains stubborn for 6 decades. Pakistan despite having a UN resolution in its favour cannot bring relief to the divided people due to the incompetence of the Heads of States, Diplomats and Media. Now from the blue this Bombay incident takes place and what we do: succumb. We could not make a lemonade out of lemon. There was no need for Pakistan to succumb to Indian demands as they have done today.

Here some people died. It was sad and condemned in no uncertain terms. Some non-State persons may have done it. It is quite possible given the injustice meted out to millions of people by India and governance against the wishes of the people. While every effort may be made to bring the terrorists to justice the world community must be made to look seriously into the root causes of the problem and eliminate the cause of the disease.

We did not ask from India the details of other terrorists. We did not even call for the DNA, finger prints etc. of Kasab and others or if we have, India has not so far obliged. The way Pakistan is buckling under the US and Indian pressure is really mind boggling. Why do we not ask of the hundreds of Indian army invasions on its people where thousands have died, just because India does not allow journalists or Human Rights activists to go and report atrocities from Kashmir.

I would call it the failure of Pakistani media first not to highlight the issues. If it did, pressure would build on The Government of Pakistan to do something which otherwise is ever so lethargic. If media does not play a role in shaping the policies of the country who will? Who will reflect the aspirations of the common man? Enmity with India will lead us no where. But when India makes capital out of a tragedy I see no reason why let go India free.

Just a few days back some RAW agents were apprehended but we made no issue out of it. We could have easily made a drama out of it. We did nothing. Our media is so weak that people do remember the name of Kashmir Singh the Indian spy who we released but no one remembers the names of dead bodies of persons who had gone to see a cricket match to India. Give our media to lambaste our own leaders who they do not fear, they make a great case out of it. They even get the guy ousted. Why don't they show the same commitment to our enemies?

Yes bringing the culprit to book and justice is fine but just don't be swayed by India. India has to account for death of hundreds of thousands of people in India. How many Muslims they have killed that has gone un-noticed and un-reported. She has killed people by thousands in Kashmir by The State sponsored Terrorism by a strong army of 700,000. Why isn't this army in UP or Bihar? They have a problem there, hence the forces. We must force a solution otherwise India won't do it.

Such approach to Kashmir is not effective...

If Kashmir is not at the center stage of world media, don't expect any solution... Kashmiris will continue to suffer...
If you want to continue to celebrate The Kashmir Day like this for centuries, then continue with what you are doing. But if you want to solve this problem and give relief to the Kashmiris under occupation then you have to do something else and a lot, lot more.

Today is the Kashmir Day. Is it news on a single international daily or news channel news sites? I have checked out. There is no mention of Kashmir in the entire world media. There is no lead story nor articles in any media. Sri Lankan Tigers, Karzai etc. have hogged the news today but not Kashmir. If any thing today Kashmir should have been the lead front page atleast three colomn story in the leading papers in the world. All news channels should have reported it. But none did. So much for your efforts.

Yes in Pakistani Channels I did see some good documentaries disregarding the pathetic comments of guys like Talat Masood and Munawar Hussain, Jamath e Islami spokesmen on Express News Channel. This does not help. We ought to have ensured that Kashmir dominated the world media today. It did not. I wish The Express Documentary is made in English and shown in the major world media sans Munawar Hussain and Tala Husain portion useless comments.

Today we ought to have reminded the world what great injustice has been going on for 60 years and how people have been suffering the attrocities of the occupiers. That is the important thing to do. We do not do what we should and love to blame the enemy. Please get over the seige mentality and don't blame the enemy when he is out to get you.

See what you are not doing. Do that. Just do not dwell in conspiracy theories that lead you to wrong thinking, analysis and hence wrong decisions for action.

We have a UN resolution in our favour but it is the failure of our diplomacy and successive governments that they have not been able to make India budge and let the Kashmiris have a life of their choice. When you fail, you analyse. So let's do it.

Where did we go wrong? Let me be brief. First we did not take advantage of the UN resolution in time. Our diplomacy failed. Our diplomats in the country and abroad just enjoyed their perks but never did the job they were supposed to. We did not build public opinion worldwide and force India in a corner. We never made the right noise in the media particularly after 1965.

The heads of State most of the time kept quite and never made the right moves, demands and announcements. They could not coin a single slogan that would get on the lips of the world leaders and media like India managed with their slogan "Cross Border Terrorism" when it was not even a border. Their slogan was repeated by our media and leaders too.

We could not even turn back and tell the world of their State Sponsored and Executed Terrorism. So much so that the terrible attrocities committed by a huge brutal army is not even duly reported in the world media. We did not do our home work and never did the important things. We did not bring to the world attention to the facts on the ground. We took it easy. The entire Muslim world took it easy. On top of it was branded as terrorism.

The problem is we never responded, never in time and never forcefully with all our diplomatic and media might. We never played the Muslim card. We never made a strong case for the world community. When our presidents and Prime Ministers meet other heads of states the first important thing they talk about must be Kashmir. They never do.

The embassies and consulates must be made to do their job and they should ensure that media in respective countries gave reports of attrocities in occupied areas. Just see how Indian media made a huge drama out of the Mumbai incident and hogged positive news for itself and negative for us. Our media has a lot to learn from it.

Now the media has grown a million fold. The task has become more difficult and more complex. Yet we have to make use of it. But how? Is the case lost? While the task is difficult, I think something can be done. What?

People of Kashmir have made huge sacrifices but they should not be expected to do so for ever. It is time now to take different actions and for all Muslim countries in the world to play a role. It seems sad when I see the actions of Jamath e Islami and guys like Talat Masood etc. who would dwell on conspiracy theories. For a starter they shoukd go t the Middle East and campaign for an economic blockade of India. This is just one action but will bring results.

The Pakistan media should play an important role and force Pakistan Govenement to act. If you build up pressure then only the Government would act. not otherwise considering the laid back and not a pro-active approach they have. Then rope in all the news agencies like Reuters and AFP etc. so that every single newspaper, magazine, site and news channel runs story on Kashmir. That is how it will get on center stage.

The world would be informed and aroused and then possibly the world would act. Not otherwise. And remember when India is a corner it will offer to negotiate and defuse a situation. I hope we don't fall for it.

It is high time we solve the problem rather than just celebrating a Kashmir day and wasting children's time of study. Instead of a holiday we should be working an extra hour on that day and register a protest by informing the world with that extra money donated.

Musharraf's mistakes 2... Continued...

You should have bargained something for Pakistan too...
Now what are his other blunders? It was just unfortunate that the 9/11 disaster had to strike in his time. Sad as it was, the incident was not of our making. It had it's roots in the wider history of The Middle East. Where was the need to panic? US needed to be sympathised and indeed helped. But we did not have to buy more problems.
US could have helped in solving vexed issues...
We had to calculate our cost. A little time should have been taken and US told of our own concerns and of a problem we have been having for 50 years, despite a UN resolution in our favor. US needed to be told that if certain issues are not resolved in time the world would have more problems on it's hand.
We are paying dearly for US follies...
The frustration might all the more manifest itself in shape of further terrorism which Pakistan could ill afford. Now we are seen as doing the dirty work for United States and yet being told "do more". Are we in a position to say "no more"? No. We are in a no win situation. People are taking up arms. It is a dangerous situation now as you must be seeing in the news these days in northern areas.
All we want is a democratic solution and a bully kept at bay...
We could have at least bargained for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute. You did not avail of the reciprocity opportunity. You can't possibly fight India to get Kashmir. We are not even wanting Kashmir. All we want is a democratic solution. India is holding on to Kashmir against the wishes of the Kashmiri people. US had to be told "you scratch my back I scratch yours". And why not? This would have saved Kashmiris of the sufferings at the hands of the huge Indian army. That would have given the signal to the people that Pakistan was not just doing the US bidding but was solving it's own problem. That did not happen.
I consider this a major blunder and an opportunity lost that might trigger further terrorism.
